Ag Féachaint Siar– 1985Comortas Na mBun Scoll Winners

This group of young mentook on Ballymore in the Comortas Na mBun Scoll final in Cusack Park in June 1985. After coming through the qualifing rounds with relative ease where they defeated Caurraghmore, Taughmon, Loughegar and Milltownpass Ballymore now stood between them and victory a victory which looked highly improbable at half time when The Downs trailed Ballymore on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-1. The second half saw a Lazarus like performance from The Downs where they took the game to Ballymore and added 3-7 to their tally whilst holding Ballymore scoreless. Some positional switches by The Downs at half time seemed to work the oracle, most notable the moving of Kieran Conneely from goals to midfield and a man of the match performance by Joe Corroon who scored 3-2 from play in the second half, to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat!

Club Developments

Prior to the outbreak of Covid19 we spoke of our plans to develop our Juvenile pitch to top class playing surface, extend our Walkway and construct a covered viewing terrace. Work was completed on our Terrace just prior to the outbreak of Covid 19.

Since the easing of the Covid restrictions a couple of weeks ago, phase two of our development work as recommenced and great progress is being made on the new pitch and walkway (see photo).

The Downs GAA club wishes to extend sincere sympathies to the family, relatives and friends of the late Mary Flynn, Drummond, Cloughan. Jim Lynagh, Lucan/Kilbeggan
