Senior Championship

Unfortunately, last Sunday evening marked the end to our interests in this year’s championship. In what was a close game throughout there was rarely more than the minimum between the sides. A crucial goal for St. Lomans with ten minutes left to play was the vital score, one our lads struggled to claw back. Full time St. Lomans 1-12 The Downs 0-11. The club are extremely proud of the team and management for their efforts this year. It was a year with many positives, a number of players made the break through to senior football and were able to flourish which only bodes well for the future.

U17 Championship

Unfortunately, our U17’s finished on the wrong side of a 1-09 to 0-08 score line when they travelled to Springfield to play Mullingar Shamrocks last Saturday evening in the championship quarter final. The Downs played some great football in this game and probably felt they seen enough of the ball to have changed the final score but unfortunately Mullingar Shamrocks were far more clinical and made the most from possession. Well done to the players and management for their efforts with this completion this year and we wish them the best of luck with their upcoming minor county final.

The Pat Walsh Cup

The annual Pat Walsh U10 tournament took place last Sunday 21st. we would like to thank all eight team for participating and adding to the fun and excitement. Well done to all involved in organising the event, in particular to Davy Monaghan for his in depth coordination on the day. Also a big well done to The Downs team who defeated Na Fianna of Dublin in the final to win the Pat Walsh Cup for the fourth time.

Senior Ladies

Well done to the senior ladies who recorded and brilliant and vital win over Moate last Sunday morning. The result means the club retain their senior status for 2020. We would like to wish Gillian Ferguson a speedy recovery after she sustained an injury in the closing stages.
