Senior Championship

Last Saturday evening we began our senior championship campaign against St. Loman’s in TEG Cusack Park. The Downs struggled in the opening stages to get up to the speed of the game and trailed by four points after five minutes. St. Loman’s continued to dominate for much of the opening half apart from some promising attacks for the Downs particularly a great move, which saw Ian Martin goal. Trailing by 11 points at the break The Downs needed a big response in the second half and they got off to a brilliant start via a Johnny Lyman goal. St. Loman’s however never let the gap get too narrow and although The Downs added two further goals via Luke Loughlin and Johnny Lynam the task for the second half was too great. Full time 4-21 to 4-14. There were a number of positives to take from the second half that the lads will hope they can bring to their next game against Garycastle.

The minor lads had a great win last Sunday morning at home against neighbours Coralstown/Kinnegad in the last round of the league. Goals from Tom Tuite and Ben Harte helped the lads to a 2:13 to 3:06 win.

Well done to our two set dancing groups who won Leinster Fleadh titles at U12 and 15-18 mixed last Friday evening in Rathcairn
